Help Anna to move around and learn to walk

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Anastasia and together with my family, my husband Tolga and my 15-month-old son Leonardo, we are fundraising for Anna, a granddaughter of Leo’s nanny, to help her to move around independently and to learn to walk.

As we are coming up to Christmas, a special time to give, to serve and to love we would like to start teaching Leonardo the importance of giving and charity. Therefore we are organising his first charitable event dedicated to childbirth and to help someone who suffered a birth injury.

Childbirth is an amazing experience and everyone emphasises how beautiful it is, which it certainly is. But birth is not only a beautiful and empowering process, it is also a very important and risky one for both a mother and a child. The outcome of this process impacts an entire family. My family and I had our share of anxiety associated with Leonardo's birth, when my three days of labour finished with an emergency caesarean on day four. Luckily for us it was a happy ending, which made us a family of three with a healthy baby to take home.

Unfortunately, not everyone makes it through as successfully. Low and middle risk pregnancies can result in a high risk delivery where participants can suffer life threatening and changing consequences. This happened to Anna. Anna swallowed meconium during labour that went into her lungs and instead of enjoying skin to skin with her parents and making her first attempts to breastfeed she had to be transferred to a special care baby unit, placed in an incubator and on a breathing machine. Anna was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and had to learn how to breath and swallow independently where her parents had to accept and build their lives around their daughter's diagnosis.

Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects muscle control, movement and speech. It affects about 1 in every 400 children in the UK. It is usually caused by an injury to the brain. At her five years of age Anna learned how to swallow, breath, hold her head and sit up. She is a curious and smiley girl, who loves being in nature and playing with toys. Anna is still learning to stand and needs constant support when moving around.

To support Anna in her desire to develop Leonardo, Tolga and I will be doing a charity walk up to the Observatory Hill on 1st December 2021 to see the Sunrise. We will be walking from the National Maritime Museum, climb up the steep slope towards the Royal Observatory, and reach Zero Meridien. This symbolic walk will allow us to see the beauty of London and visualise the brighter horizon and future for Anna. The same way the three of us, and anyone who wants to participate, will be enjoying that walk in Greenwich park, we want to give an opportunity to Anna and her parents to have a family day out in a park, where their daughter can move independently.

Therefore we are raising money to buy a buggy and a walking aid to help Anna to move around independently and to learn to walk. Here are links to the products pages:
